In an important move to boost the country’s cybersecurity, Bangladesh started the Cyber Incident Reporting System (CIRS) and the National ICT & Cyber Security Rating System (NRS) on Tuesday.
The two national platforms aim to make it easier to report cyber incidents, improve the ability to respond together, and create a standard way to check the cybersecurity skills of organizations in the country.

The launch is one of Bangladesh’s biggest steps in cybersecurity since the NCSA started. It shows that the government cares about protecting key information systems, government services, banks, and the fast-growing digital economy.
Cyber Incident Reporting System (CIRS)
The Cyber Incident Reporting System (CIRS) serves as a centralized platform for reporting cybersecurity incidents affecting government agencies, Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), financial institutions, telecommunications operators, and private-sector organizations.
Through CIRS, organizations can report incidents such as:
Ransomware attacks
Data breaches
Malware infections
Phishing campaigns
Website defacement
Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks
Unauthorized access
Other cyber threats and security incidents
The platform will help organizations report incidents quickly, improve teamwork among national cybersecurity groups, speed up responses to incidents, and make it easier to share information about threats.
By gathering all incident data in one place, the NCSA can spot new attack trends, check national cyber risks, and plan responses during big cyber events.
Director General of National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) Md. Taibur Rahman said, the system will incorporate all noted organizations across Bangladesh. All institutions will have own dashboard to observe their institutional security maturity level and to improve accordingly.
National Security Rating System (NRS)
Alongside CIRS, the NCSA introduced the National Security Rating System (NRS), a cybersecurity assessment framework that aims to check how secure organizations in Bangladesh are.
The rating system is expected to assess multiple cybersecurity domains, including:
Information Security Governance
Risk Management
Identity and Access Management
Network and Infrastructure Security
Vulnerability Management
Incident Response Capability
Backup and Disaster Recovery
Security Awareness and Training
Compliance with National Cybersecurity Policies
Organizations will get a security score based on how strong their cybersecurity is. This will help them find weak areas and focus on making improvements. The framework should help policymakers understand the country’s cybersecurity skills and push organizations to use global security best practices.
ICT adviser Rehan Asif Asad said, The steps is very critical for Bangladesh in cyber security landscape. As we move on cashless society, its growing cyber threat rapidly.
In our country, mis-dis information impacts us all. So, the two portal will play a vital role not only reduce but also creating awareness. He said, banking and telco sectors in advance mode but others are in a gap to work. He emphasized the Gov.t sectors to be work to improve cyber security arena.
ICT minister Fakir Mahbub Anam said, Its a milestone for Bangladesh. By the portal, all are able to report and to get remediation steps from the G.ovt sooner. He hopes that while implementing the two system effectively, it will helps the organizations to measure and taking steps.
Strengthening Bangladesh’s Cyber Resilience
As Bangladesh grows quickly in the digital world, threats to public services, banks, healthcare, phone services, and important infrastructure have become more advanced.
The introduction of CIRS and NRS is expected to deliver several national-level benefits, including:
Faster detection and reporting of cyber incidents
Improved national cyber threat visibility
Better coordination among government agencies and industry
Enhanced protection of Critical Information Infrastructure
Data-driven cybersecurity policymaking

The plan follows global cybersecurity practices used by many countries. These practices focus on reporting incidents in one place and checking cybersecurity skills, which are important for strengthening national cyber resilience.
Looking Ahead
While CIRS and NRS are important new steps, experts say that they will only succeed in the long run if they are done well.
Key priorities are setting rules for reporting cyber incidents, getting both public and private groups involved, doing regular checks on cybersecurity, and always improving national threat intelligence skills.
If many people use it, the Cyber Incident Reporting System and the National Security Rating System could be key parts of Bangladesh’s cybersecurity setup. This would help respond quickly to cyber threats and make the country better at dealing with online dangers in a complicated digital world.
