Bangladesh Bank server outage, RTGS transaction disrupted

Transactions in Bangladesh Bank’s Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system have been disrupted due to a server error. It caused problems in the settlement of inter-bank transactions after 4 pm on Monday (July 31).

A senior official of a private bank said that there is a problem with RTGS. As a result, inter-bank transactions were disrupted from 4 pm onwards. The problem was not resolved till Monday evening. RTGS suddenly has such a problem. Due to which many transactions could not be done today (31 July). Hopefully I can do the rest of the transactions tomorrow (today) he added.

He also said that due to the simultaneous payment of monthly salaries by various organizations to their employees, there was an error that increased the pressure on the server. 90 percent of the total daily inter-bank transactions take place on RTGS.

In this regard, an official of Bangladesh Bank said that such a problem has been happening for the past 1 week. RTGS issues of 42 banks have been resolved so far. Hopefully everything will be fine in the morning.

Bangladesh Bank Assistant Spokesperson Sarwar Hossain told to media that the technical problem started after 4 pm. The technical team of the bank is looking into the matter. The latest news I can say is that the matter is being resolved as soon as possible. Hopefully it will be fixed by morning (today).
