Hackers stole $81 million from Bangladesh Bank, but they made a mistake that stopped them from taking even more money. Universal’s new documentary “Billion Dollar Heist” directed by Daniel Gordon is a reminder of the reality and significance of the 2016 shakedown. It sheds light on why cybersecurity experts worldwide were highly concerned during that time.

The Billion Dollar Heist tells the story of hackers who used the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) banking system to unlawfully transfer $101 million from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to an account at the Bangladesh Bank.
The Bangladesh Bank robbery is seen as part of a larger trend of increasing cybercrime, according to interviews with cybersecurity experts and author Misha Glenny in the book Billion Dollar Heist.
Glenny believes that coordinated cyberattacks are as threatening as pandemics, weapons of mass destruction, and climate change, which may sound sensational. The documentary provides a detailed analysis of the Bangladesh Bank robbery and the increasing sophistication of hackers in subsequent attacks. It may convince you to watch “Billion Dollar Heist” when it becomes available on streaming services.
Billion Dollar Heist will be available to rent or stream on August 15th. Video link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31FkJyi7M1c)
