On Friday, the US cybersecurity agency CISA included CVE-2025-64446 in its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, advising federal agencies to fix it within a week.
On Thursday, several security firms alerted about a vulnerability being exploited in FortiWeb version 8.0.1 and earlier. WatchTowr reported that attacks were widely targeting FortiWeb appliances worldwide. PwnDefend and Rapid7 connected these attacks to an exploit identified by Defused on October 6, which then shared proof-of-concept (PoC) code.
“We are aware of this vulnerability and activated our PSIRT response and remediation efforts as soon as we learned of this matter, and those efforts remain ongoing,” a Fortinet spokesperson said.
“We are communicating directly with affected customers to advise on any necessary recommended actions. We urge our customers to refer to the advisory and follow the guidance provided [in] FG-IR-25-910,” the spokesperson continued.
Fortinet advises customers to turn off HTTP/HTTPS on internet-facing interfaces until they update to a patched FortiWeb version.
Customers should check their configuration and logs for any unexpected changes, like unauthorized admin accounts, after the upgrade.
