Fake election commissioner arrested, who threaten changing election result on Rajshahi

Police has arrested a fake Election Commissioner. Fraudster who called a councilor candidate in the recently held Rajshahi City Corporation Election-2023 and demanded money, otherwise threatening to change the election results. RMP’s DB team arrested him from shekher tek in Dhaka on Friday night.

The arrested fraudster is Gias Uddin, son of Kabir Uddin of Putibila village of Maheshkhali police station of Cox’s Bazar district. RMP Police Commissioner Anisur Rahman gave this information at a press conference at RMP headquarters on Saturday (June 17).

In a press conference, RMP Police Commissioner Anisur Rahman told, Gias uddin impersonated him as election commissioner Brig. Ahsan Habib, called the Councilor of Ward No. 24 of Rajshahi City on WhatsApp, demanding money for the election and threatening to change the result of the election if he did not pay. The fraudster again asked Armaan Ali to speak to the Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on his mobile number.

Later, the fraudster called  two times that day but the councilor Arman Ali did not receive the fraudster’s phone after realizing the fraud.

Councilor Arman made a police diary at Boalia Model Police Station and informed the Returning Officer about the matter. The incident of fraud created a stir across the country through print and electronic media.

Under the direction of RMP Commissioner of Police Anisur Rahman, under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Vijay Basak and with the assistance of Cybercrime of RMP, a sharp team of DB conducted operations in different parts of the country to uncover the syndicates related to fraud. At the same time, fraudster Ghiyas Uddin kept changing his location one after another to avoid arrest by the police.

Finally, Ghiyas Uddin, the main leader of the gang, was arrested by RMP’s DB team on the night of June 16 from Dhaka’s Shakher tek.

Due to this fraud, a case has been filed against Gias Uddin at Boalia Model Police station and there are two cases against him in Dhaka’s Paltan Police Station and two in Maheshkhali Police Station. Also the operation to arrest his accomplices is continuing.
