FirePass, a fire prevention and suppression system. FirePASS® Corporation was established in 2001 in New York U.S.A. after the Phenomenon of ignition suppression in breathable hypoxic atmosphere was discovered and patented.

Discovery:

In 1998, Russian scientist Igor Kotliar discovered that breathable hypoxic (oxygen-reduced) air can suppress fires. He made this breakthrough while experimenting with his Hypoxic Room System, which he invented in 1993 for athletic training. In 1995, Kotliar founded Hypoxico Inc. in New York to market his inventions.

Use cases in Bangladesh:

Experts says, FirePass can be used in Data Center, Museums and Archives, Substation, Warehouse, Tall buildings, Tunnels and Nuclear power plants in Bangladesh. FirePass claims, the system can extinguish fire in a few moments.

WORLDWIDE PATENTED:

FirePASS® Technology is protected by multiple patents worldwide, including several in the United States (Nos. 06,314,754; 06,334,315; 06,401,487; 06,418,752; 06,502,421; 06,557,374; 06,560,991; 07,207,392; RE040065) and other countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, and the UK. Additional patents are pending.

FirePASS Concept:

The invention of FirePASS® is based on a discovery made during research conducted in the Hypoxic Room System manufactured by Hypoxico Inc. in New York. It was discovered that the processes of ignition and combustion in a normobaric, hypoxic (low oxygen level) environment are far different from the ignition and combustion process that occurs in a hypobaric natural altitude environment with the same partial pressure of oxygen.

How FirePASS oxygen reduction fire prevention systems work:

Ambient air is drawn into the hypoxic generator where it is purified and turned hypoxic (low oxygen level).
The entire room is ventilated with low oxygen air, inhibiting fire ignition. Low oxygen air leaks from the room, thus completing the flow of air and ventilating the space. A control unit monitoring the room with oxygen-sensors permanently ensures a stable and healthy low oxygen environment in the room.

Oxyreduct air for fire protection:

A FirePASS® oxyreduct environment is established by ventilating a room with so-called hypoxic, i.e. oxygen-reduced, air. Oxyreduct air is produced by partly filtering out oxygen from ambient atmospheric air, thus typically reducing the oxygen content to 15%, compared to the normal amount of 20.9%. This low oxygen level corresponds to the partial pressure of oxygen at an altitude of around 2.700m (9.000ft). More about oxyreduct fire prevention

Oxygen reduction for fire suppression:

FirePASS®, used in suppression mode, operates in a fashion similar to other inert gas total flooding systems with the goal being to reduce the O2 content of the protected space to the requisite combustion inhibition level. The FirePASS-Suppression system has the ability to extinguish all class A, class B and class C fires while offering added defense against re-ignition even in deep-seated fires. This is all done with a level of respiratory safety unmatched by other systems. More about oxygen reduction fire suppression.

Fire prevention by oxyreduct air:

A FirePASS® prevention environment is established by ventilating a room with so-called hypoxic, i.e. oxyreduct air. Hypoxic air is produced by partly filtering out oxygen from ambient atmospheric air, thus typically reducing the oxygen content to 15%, compared to the normal amount of 20.9%. This oxygen level corresponds to the partial pressure of oxygen at an altitude of around 2.700m (9.000ft).

No unsafe nitrogen dilution:

FirePASS doesn’t use the unsafe nitrogen dilution concept offered by competition tying to circumventing our patents. Unlike safe and healthy oxyreduct ventilation, nitrogen injection may cause lethal accidents and does not provide sufficient ventilation of an area to be protected.

Hypoxic ventilation was first introduced 20 years ago for athletic training and medical treatment by our affiliated company Hypoxico Inc. in New York. Since then thousands of people around the world train and sleep in hypoxic atmospheres every day: (www.hypoxico.eu).

Safe working conditions:

Most common flammable solid materials and liquids cannot be ignited in environments with an oxygen level lower than 16%. However, humans easily tolerate an oxyreduct atmosphere of 14-16% O2 without any health hazards (instead of 20.9% O2 as in natural, ambient air).

Anybody traveling on a modern passenger airplane has experienced oxygen concentrations of around 15%. In addition, millions of residents live in altitudes of 3.500m / 11.000ft and above, such as in La Paz, Bolivia, without showing any impairment of their physiological functions.

Scientific research has proven that working in such oxyreduct conditions does not impose any health hazards on normal healthy human beings.

Oxygen reduction extinguishing system:

FirePASS, used in suppression mode, operates in a fashion similar to other inert gas total flooding systems with the goal being to reduce the O2 content of the protected space to the requisite combustion inhibition level. The FirePASS-Suppression system has the ability to extinguish all class A, class B and class C fires while offering added defense against re-ignition even in deep-seated fires. This is all done with a level of respiratory safety unmatched by other systems.

Fire safety advantages with FirePASS® systems:

Certainty of avoiding the outbreak and spread of fire
Retaining access to protected areas at any time
Proactive and permanent fire protection to secure business processes and valuable goods
Protecting multiple hazards with just one system
Fire protection without any interruption – no refilling or replacement needed
Absolute safety for human beings through using breathable air – no nitrogen injection
Environmentally friendly – no chemicals used
Easy to install and maintain
Very small footprint and little building space needed
Scalable to any size of protected areas and number of protected compartments
No design limitations
No damages by fire, released water, foam or other extinguishing agents
No excessive piping, no nozzles, no pressurized cylinders, no leaking
No false discharges , no discharge failures, no loss of work time , no interruptions of working processes, no consequential costs
No disruption of working processes, no consequential costs, no closing of unusable areas due to fire damages, clean-up or repair

Large variety of oxyreduct fire prevention systems:

FirePASS® offers a large variety of oxyreduct fire prevention systems, that can fit any application. They range from self contained units for smaller rooms to big systems for huge volumes. FirePASS® oxygen reduction fire prevention systems can protect single or multiple rooms and compartments with of up to several 100.000 m3 / several mil. cft and even more. All oxygen reduction fire prevention systems are tailored to the designated application, the location, the protected space and the customers specific requirements.
