Firepass Offers Safer, Cheaper Alternative to Traditional Fire Systems

SmartData, has introduced advanced fire-extinguishing technology; Firepass, is gaining attention in Bangladesh as a fire prevention solution. This technology prevents fire from spreading in a specific area and can quickly extinguish any fire that starts. Now, this technology is cheaper than the traditional fire fighting system in Bangladesh but its effectiveness is much better.

Ambient air is drawn into the hypoxic generator where it is purified and turned hypoxic (low oxygen level). The entire room is ventilated with low oxygen air, inhibiting fire ignition. Low oxygen air leaks from the room, thus completing the flow of air and ventilating the space. A control unit monitoring the room with oxygen-sensors permanently ensures a stable and healthy low oxygen environment in the room.

Oxyreduct air for fire protection:

A FirePASS® oxyreduct environment is established by ventilating a room with so-called hypoxic, i.e. oxygen-reduced, air. Oxyreduct air is produced by partly filtering out oxygen from ambient atmospheric air, thus typically reducing the oxygen content to 15%, compared to the normal amount of 20.9%. This low oxygen level corresponds to the partial pressure of oxygen at an altitude of around 2.700m (9.000ft).

Oxygen reduction for fire suppression:

FirePASS®, used in suppression mode, operates in a fashion similar to other inert gas total flooding systems with the goal being to reduce the O2 content of the protected space to the requisite combustion inhibition level. The FirePASS-Suppression system has the ability to extinguish all class A, class B and class C fires while offering added defense against re-ignition even in deep-seated fires. This is all done with a level of respiratory safety unmatched by other systems.

WORLDWIDE PATENTED:

FirePASS® Technology is protected by multiple patents worldwide, including several in the United States (Nos. 06,314,754; 06,334,315; 06,401,487; 06,418,752; 06,502,421; 06,557,374; 06,560,991; 07,207,392; RE040065) and other countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, and the UK. Additional patents are pending.

Use cases in Bangladesh:

Experts says, FirePass can be used in Data Center, Museums and Archives, Substation, Warehouse, Tall buildings, Tunnels and Nuclear power plants in Bangladesh. FirePass claims, the system can extinguish fire in a few moments.

SmartData Senior Technical Consultant Shimul Parvez said that oxygen is controlled in any sealed (closed) room in such a way that chemical reactions do not occur, as a result, there will be no fire anywhere in that place.

Data Center Solution Manager (Sales) Ishaq Ibn Khan Jewel said that this technology is a proactive technology. This method will not allow fire to break out in the applied place. If someone takes it inside to light a fire from outside, it will automatically extinguish.

He said that in conventional fire extinguishing (suppression systems), many chemicals are used, which are harmful in various ways, and the recycling cost is high. But there is no cost to reuse this FirePass method; once the technology is installed somewhere, it can be used as long as the user wants.

Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain, Consultant of FirePASS, Bangladesh & South Asia Region said, FirePASS is a game-changer in fire safety—not just for putting out fires, but for preventing them before they even start.

FirePASS® is a revolutionary fire prevention system that creates a breathable yet fire-inhibiting environment. By reducing oxygen levels to approximately 15%, it forms a hypoxic atmosphere that remains safe for human occupancy but prevents combustion altogether. Unlike traditional suppression systems that activate only after a fire starts, FirePASS® takes a proactive approach—stopping ignition before it can occur.

Designed specifically for environments where both people and sensitive equipment are present, FirePASS® is ideal for data centers, archives, control rooms, and similar critical facilities. It relies solely on filtered ambient air—no chemicals, no gases, and no toxic residue—making it not only safe but also maintenance-free and environmentally friendly.

This fire prevention system was invented in the United States in 2001. Later, it was used in various European countries, including South Africa and Saudi Arabia and now is being used across the globe.
