Bajaj Auto said on Tuesday that a ransomware attack impacted its systems and its subsidiary, Bajaj Auto Technology Ltd (BATL). This led to quick action by its technical and cybersecurity teams.
In a report, the car maker said the cyber attack happened at about 8 am IST on June 23. The company said it quickly started safety steps and response plans to control the attack and reduce its effects.
“Immediately upon becoming aware of the incident, the technical team of the Company along with cyber security experts and the management responded promptly and initiated necessary precautionary actions and protocols to mitigate the impact of this incident,” Bajaj Auto said.
The company said that, based on what they know so far, the actions taken have worked to reduce the effects of the attack.
Bajaj Auto reported that the ransomware attack affected systems at both the main company and BATL, its fully owned tech branch. But it did not say how bad the impact was, if any data was taken, or if production and business were disrupted.
The company said it told the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) about the event as required by the Information Technology Act, 2000.

A report by Reuters says that the ransomware group World Leaks shared over 200,000 files on the dark web. Security experts told Reuters that these files included supposed design and specification documents about Apple and Tesla, both clients of Tata Electronics.
