Internet Service Provider of Bangladesh (ISPAB) president Imdadul Haque said that 500 Gbps bandwidth of 19 IIGs (International Internet Gateways) of the country has been downed to collect dues.

Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) Managing Director, Mirza Kamal Ahmed told infosecbulletin that several meetings have been held with the IIGs who are owed money. But due to no progress, 19 IIGs have been limited with 500 Gbps band on the orders of the higher authorities. He also said that 19 IIGs have a total outstanding of Tk 380 crore.
Mirza Kamal Ahmed said that BSCPLC sent a letter to the Ministry of Telecommunication on July 13 to collect the dues. The ministry wrote to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on August 9 to take action in this regard. Even then the concerned IIG company did not respond.
Mirza Kamal Ahmed said that 100 Gbps bandwith has already been upgraded as an IIG has paid. He expressed his hope that the rest will pay the dues by next Sunday.
In this regard, IIGAB Secretary General Ahmed Junayed told the media that apart from the 19 institutions to which letters have been sent, the bandwidth of many others has been limited. Could have given them advance notice or atleast informed before restricting. ISPAB President Imdadul Haque’s opinion is the same. He said, “I know of many IIGs whose bandwidth has been downgraded without giving any notice.”
Now the total bandwidth demand in the country is 5100 Gbps out of which Bangladesh Submarine Cables provides 2485 Gbps.
