Cyber fraudsters hacked the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Bank’s server using a customer’s mobile phone. According to reports, the fraudsters hacked a customer’s mobile banking app at the bank’s Halti branch in Chamba district and withdrew Rs 11.55 crores, which was later transferred to 20 different bank accounts.
The State Cyber Cell reported that the incident happened on May 11 and 12, but it wasn’t discovered until May 14 because the bank was closed for a holiday and couldn’t receive the transaction report from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The bank assured customers that their money is safe and that the transferred amounts have been put on hold.
Indianexpress reported, “through the compromised device, the culprits accessed the HimPaisa mobile application and entered the bank’s server, Cooperative Bank’s Managing Director Sharwan Manta said fraudsters hacked the internet banking system of the bank.
“We have identified the banks wherein the siphoned money was transferred and blocked all the accounts in which money was transferred from our bank. Our money was cyber secured and fully insured so nobody is at a loss — neither banks nor customers,” Manta said, adding that this is for the first time that the bank’s internet security was breached.
