“Workshop on Cybersecurity Awareness and Needs Analysis” held at BBTA

A time-demanding workshop on “Cybersecurity Awareness and Needs Analysis” was held on Thursday (December 19) at Bangladesh Bank Training Academy Auditorium in Dhaka.

This workshop aims to raise awareness of the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies in the financial sector and gather insights on future human resource development. It is part of a broader initiative to enhance ICT human resources, specifically in cybersecurity.

MITRE Launches D3FEND 1.0; The Milestone for Cybersecurity Ontology

The event gathered key stakeholders from the financial sector to emphasize the importance of cybersecurity. Mr. Rokon-Uz-Zaman, Joint Director of BBTA, explained the workshop’s purpose. The opening session included remarks from Mr. Md. Hanif Miah, Executive Director of BBTA, and Mr. Md. Golam Sarwar, Director of BCC. Special speeches by Mr. A K M Ahmedul Islam BABU, Chairman of BASIS Japan Desk, and Mr. SHOJI Akihiro, JICA Expert, emphasized the collaboration’s goals and the essential role of cybersecurity in the digital economy.

A key part of the workshop was a virtual keynote by Mr. Allan Watanabe, CEO of Pipeline Inc., Japan, focusing on critical cybersecurity issues in Japan and Bangladesh. This was followed by a presentation on Dark Web Metrics by Md Abdullah Al Mamun, and a discussion on Attack Surface Management and Zero-Day Mitigation by Md. Azim Uddin from Pipeline Inc. Participants engaged with the speakers during an interactive Q&A session, exploring the evolving challenges in cybersecurity.

After the presentations, the workshop included a panel discussion with cybersecurity experts, including Mr. Abu Sayed Md. Kamruzzaman, Director General of NCSA, Ms. KATASUKI Naho JICA Expert (Project Coordinator), JICA Bangladesh, Fahad Zaman Chowdhury, Joint Director (ICT) from Bangladesh Bank, and Dr. Mohammad Shahriar Rahman, Professor, Dept. of CSE & Director, Canter for IT Services(CITS), United International University (UIU) .

Abul Kalam Azad, Head Of Information Security at Eastern Bank PLC moderated a session where panelists discussed Bangladesh’s cybersecurity issues, emerging threats, and critical skills needed in the financial and ICT sectors. The session ended with an open discussion and a questionnaire on workforce needs and training enhancements.

Closing remarks were given by Ms. KUROKAMI Minami, JICA Bangladesh Representative, followed by a final speech from Mr. Muhammad Zakir Hasan, Executive Director (ICT) of BBTA.

The workshop aims to raise awareness of cybersecurity challenges in the financial sector and the demand for skilled professionals in Bangladesh. It will enhance understanding of threats and opportunities, helping to meet the growing need for expertise. Insights from the event will inform the development of training courses.

Bangladesh Bank Training Academy (BBTA) – The Project for ICT Engineers Development for the Promotion of ICT Industry and New Innovations (JICA-BCC-BASIS TCP), a collaborative initiative under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), together with the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), has organized a significant workshop focused on cybersecurity awareness and needs analysis in partnership with the Bangladesh Bank Training Academy (BBTA).

The project aims to develop software engineers while also involving other sectors in cybersecurity training for all IT professionals. It is collaborating with Bangladesh Bank and BBTA, who support this initiative, particularly for the financial sector.
