India to built Mythos-like AI model “Sarvam AI” and “BharatGen” assigned

India is speeding up its work to make homegrown AI models for cybersecurity. These models will help protect important digital systems and lessens the need for foreign AI tools. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has asked top Indian AI projects, Sarvam AI and BharatGen, to develop strong AI cybersecurity features that match the best models like Mythos.

The government says the new AI models will run on its own computers. This keeps sensitive data safe in the country. This plan reduces the need for foreign AI services and gives better control over data privacy, security, and rules.

The plan shows India is spending more on artificial intelligence in areas like government, health, education, defense, and online safety. By building its own AI models, India wants to make tools that fit its unique digital needs and safety.

CERT-In Already Leveraging Indigenous AI Models

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the country’s national cybersecurity agency, is using homegrown AI models and open-source tools to improve its cyber defense skills.

These AI systems can do about 60% to 70% of what advanced models like Mythos can do. They help find software problems, spot cyber threats, check bad activities, and make important government systems safer.

The next step in development will greatly improve how these AI models work. This will allow quicker threat detection, automatic security checks, and immediate help against cyber attacks.

Reducing Dependence on Foreign AI Models

One main goal of the initiative is to lessen India’s need for foreign AI technologies in important national security areas. Although advanced global AI models work very well, countries around the world want local options to help with worries about data security, independence, and lasting tech strength.

Making homegrown cybersecurity AI models will help India’s goal of becoming a world leader in artificial intelligence and encourage new ideas in the local AI field.

Government Prioritizes Access to Advanced AI Technologies

Highlighting the importance of advanced AI for national cybersecurity, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan stated:

“Getting access to Mythos and similar advanced frontier models is very high on the priority of the government.”

India’s AI Future

Digital change is speeding up in both public and private areas, making cybersecurity very important. Using AI for finding threats, checking weaknesses, and automatic responses to incidents will be key for protecting important services.

By helping groups like Sarvam AI, BharatGen, and CERT-In make better cybersecurity AI tools, India is making a big move toward a safe and independent AI system that can compete globally. This plan aims to make India stronger against cyber threats, encourage local ideas, and place India as a leader in AI security solutions in the future.
