India is making its communication systems safer and stronger by launching 14 local quantum products. These products were made by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), which is the research and development part of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in the Ministry of Communications.
The products were shown at C-DOT’s 43rd Foundation Day in New Delhi. They include Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), secure encryption, and special parts for quantum communication systems. This collection is made for use in telecom, business, wireless, optical, strategic, and defense networks.
Expanding quantum-safe communications
The portfolio has two ways to improve quantum security. QKD technology helps create and share secure quantum keys. PQC-based methods use special math techniques to protect against risks from new quantum computers.
Q-AKSHAY CD is one of the QKD products. It is a small, fibre-based system that uses Coherent One Way and Differential Phase Shift methods to create and send secure quantum keys over fibre networks. Q-AKSHAY MD uses the Measurement Device Independent method and aims to tackle flaws linked to measurement devices.
C-DOT has created special parts for quantum communication systems. C-SPD is a Single-Photon Detector, and C-RD is an RF driver that works with a wide range of frequencies. It helps control intensity and phase modulators in quantum communication systems.
Quantum-safe protection across networks
The wider portfolio includes solutions to protect communication over different network layers and operating environments.
Q-SETU is a safe encryptor for Layer 3 communications. It can handle speeds up to 80 Mbps. Q-MAHASETU works with Layer 2/3 networks and supports speeds up to 40 Gbps. Both use NIST PQC algorithms.
Q-VIKRAM and Q-PARAKRAM are strong encryptors for defense and communication. They can handle speeds up to 1 Gbps for Layer 2/3 networks. Q-AMOG offers safe protection for fast optical communications, with speeds up to 200 Gbps at Layer 1.
The portfolio also offers quantum-safe protection for communication and access systems. Q-DARSHAN is a quantum-safe video phone, and Q-VACHAN is a device that adds quantum security to IP phones. Q-RAQSHAK is for business networks, Q-VAAYU protects wireless connections, and Q-VAJRA1000 upgrades current communication networks with quantum security, including GPON and wireless radios.
Building an indigenous quantum ecosystem
The 14 products together offer a range that includes quantum-safe encryption, secure communication, and important parts for quantum communication systems. This means C-DOT’s quantum program covers telecom networks, business infrastructure, wireless and optical communication, and also defense and strategic uses.
The technologies show C-DOT’s work in both QKD and PQC, not just one method for secure quantum communications. The special parts made by the group aim to help grow quantum communication systems and safe security solutions for current and future networks.
A new booklet called the Quantum Product Series was launched at the event. It shows C-DOT’s homegrown quantum solutions. The booklet talks about the group’s work in QKD and PQC and its goal to create safe, strong, and future-ready communication tech.
The launch shows C-DOT’s goal of turning local research and ideas into better communication networks for India as it gets ready for the new quantum age.
