Bank account identity cards
International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs)
Account holder identity information (such as address and tax identifier, in some instances)

The breached database revealed 1.2 million accounts, but it’s unclear how many had their data accessed or stolen. After discovering the breach, actions were taken to limit access and halt the attack.

The organization will notify affected users soon. They are also working with banks to raise awareness.

FICOBA is a centralized state-managed registry of bank accounts in France, operated by the French tax authority, the Direction générale des Finances publiques (DGFiP). The announcement warns about scams using email and SMS to steal personal information or money, advising citizens not to reply.

“The tax administration never asks for your login credentials or bank card number via message,” the French ministry warns.

The French data protection authority, CNIL, has also been informed about the incident. DGFiP’s IT team is collaborating with the Finance Ministry and ANSSI to enhance system security and restore full operations.
