Cyber security seminar held at Coxbazar

A seminar on cyber security was held at Submarine Cable Landing Station, Cox’s Bazar on 24th December 2023 organized by National Cyber Security Agency in collaboration with Submarine Cable Landing Station Authority and Directorate of ICT, Cox’s Bazar.

Abu Sayed Md. Kamruzzaman NDC, Director General of National Cyber Security Agency as the chief guest and keynote speaker in the seminar, Tapti Chakma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT), Cox’s Bazar as special guest and speaker and Deputy General Manager of Cox’s Bazar Submarine Cable Landing Station as President, Surchit Barua were present. Mr. Shamim Ahmed Bhuiyan, Investigation Officer (Law) of CCA office was also present.

MITRE Launches D3FEND 1.0; The Milestone for Cybersecurity Ontology

At the beginning of the seminar Mr. SM Manna, Assistant Director of NCSA delivered a welcome speech. The chief guest and keynote presenter of the seminar NCSA Director General on Cyber Security explained the requirements of the newly approved Cyber Security Act, 2023 and various important sections of the Cyber Security Act to secure the country’s cyber space.

He outlined the National Cyber Security Agency’s action plan to ensure cyber security. Also discussed various activities of the agency especially CII and the future plans of the agency. He informed that the government is working tirelessly to ensure cyber security and protect privacy. He advises everyone to be aware of various cyber risks and mobile scams.

He stressed on everyone to be aware of cyber risks and practice cyber hygiene to stay safe in cyber space. He discussed the four pillars of building Smart Bangladesh and highlighted what needs to be done to implement other pillars including Smart Citizen. In his discussion, he mentioned various cases of cyber bullying of teenagers especially women and asked to report the victim of cyber bullying to the hotline number 13219.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT), Cox’s Bazar first thanked Mr. NCSA DG for the detailed discussion on Cyber Security Act. He expressed his opinion that everyone should be careful about using safe email and cyber bullying. He discussed that everyone should be aware of cyber bullying at institutional and family level.

Mr. Shamim Ahmed Bhuiyan, Investigation Officer (Law) of CCA office discussed the areas of digital signature use, importance and cyber security in the seminar. He discussed the importance of using digital signatures to prevent forgery and ensure authenticity of digital documents of all government offices. He also discussed the functions of the CCA office in detail.

The participants in the seminar presented various questions related to cyber security, safe internet usage, cyber crime prevention and cyber security laws. Keynote presenters, panelists and NCSA officials answered the questions.

Officials of Submarine Cable Landing Station and various government departments of Cox’s Bazar district, ICT officials of Cox’s Bazar district, NCSA officials and journalists were present in the seminar.
