6 institutions faced DDoS attack: BGD e-Gov CIRT, hackers claim more

On August 15, there was a threat of cyber attacks on important institutions in Bangladesh by various hacker groups. Sensing the importance of the issue, the government’s cyber issue watchdog BGD e-Gov CIRT and Bangladesh Bank also issued an alert. After the passing of days, CIRT has detected DDoS attacks on the websites of 6 organizations of the country.

On Wednesday (August 16), CIRT’s Project Director (PD) Engineer Md. Saiful Alam Khan told that DDoS attacks have been detected on the websites of 6 organizations in the country. The hacker groups claimed to have attacked the sites of another 20 to 25 organizations. However, CIRT could not immediately confirm whether those attacks were DDoS.

He also said that the CIRT is working on the websites of organizations that are under threat of attack. The sites of 6 organizations were confirmed to be victims of the attack.

Earlier, the websites of important institutions like NID were also closed due to fear of cyber attack. Various internet based services of Bangladesh Bank were also closed for several hours.
