MITRE Launches D3FEND 1.0; The Milestone for Cybersecurity Ontology

The day-long ‘Safer Internet Conference’ was held at Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park with students, teachers and parents of various educational institutions of Jessore district under the initiative of National Cyber Security Agency. Most of the attendees were students from different schools and colleges of Jessore.

The day-long conference was organized by National Cyber Security Agency and Cyber Teens and supported by UNDP Bangladesh. At the beginning of the conference, various educational materials and cyber security leaflets were distributed among the students, teachers and participants.

Md. Shamsul Arefin, Secretary of ICT Department, joined the conference as the chief guest. Also present as special guests were Director General of National Cyber Security Agency Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman,NDC and SP of Jessore Police of Investigation Reshma Sharmin, Jessore Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Khaleda Khatun Rekha presided over as panellists. Small journalist Subha Safayet Sijda, Logic Eye Forensic founder Mehedi Hasan, Make A Team founder Amir Hamza Jihad, Apollo Games content creator Nayan Hossain and Cyber Tins fonuder Sadat Rahman were present as panelists.

Subha Safayet Sijda said in her discussion that every thing has two sides, good and bad. Similarly, the Internet has both good and bad sides. We should put the internet to good use. During the Corona period, students studied online at home, completed the syllabus. But as internet usage has grown, so have security risks. He expressed the opinion that we should be aware in the use of digital devices.

Founder President of Cyber Teens Foundation Saadat Rahman presented various examples of cyber bullying in his talk and highlighted what can be done to prevent it and asked teenagers to report to hotline number 13219 if they are victims of cyber bullying. He conducted a cyber security quiz competition with the students present and prizes were distributed among the winners by the guests present.

Special guest PBI Superintendent of Police Reshma Sharmin said that girls are more victims of cyber crime on the internet. Boys are also victims of cyber crime. Presently, the rate of cybercrime cases is increasing many times. Gives examples of various harassments taking place in cyber world and prohibits sharing of personal content like videos, images. He advised the present students to use the internet for good.

Special guest Director General of National Cyber Security Agency opined on increasing cyber risks as various online services of the government reach people’s doorsteps and stressed on emphasis on cyber security. He said that cyber security will be ensured only if all citizens are cyber aware.

It is difficult for the government alone to ensure cyber security. Students should be aware of using internet. Family values alone can keep a young student away from the world of crime. He advises not to receive video calls from unknown numbers. Besides, he highlighted the requirements of the newly passed Cyber Security Act, 2023 and various aspects of cyber security. He also highlighted various activities and future plans of the National Cyber Security Agency.

The chief guest of the conference, Honorable Secretary of ICT Department, Md. Shamsul Arefin, thanked all the students present at the safe internet conference and emphasized the importance of protecting their personal information. He expressed hope that students would keep themselves safe on the Internet and that parents would be cautious about their children’s Internet use. He thanked Cyber Teens for organizing the internet conference with NCSA and hoped that Cyber Teens would always stand by the students who are victims of cyber bullying.

Students and parents participating in the conference presented various questions related to cyber bullying, cyber security, personal data protection and safe internet usage. The guests, panelists and officials of NCSA gave satisfactory answers to the said questions. Finally, the president of the conference Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) said that smart parenting is lacking in our country. He opined that there is a lack of sharing and caring among the parents. He discusses in detail the various changes during puberty and the guidance of parents.
