Tata Technologies reported that a ransomware incident impacted some IT assets, which were temporarily suspended and then restored as a precaution.
“Our Client delivery services have remained fully functional and unaffected throughout. Further detailed investigation is underway in consultation with experts to assess the root cause and to take remedial action as necessary,” stated the company in the filing.
Ransomware is a cyber-attack where hackers access a victim’s device, encrypt their files, and deny access. They demand payment to decrypt the files and may also threaten to leak sensitive information or sell it on the dark web.
Paying a ransom doesn’t ensure a safe outcome for the victim. To avoid such attacks and reduce damage, companies invest in network upgrades, data encryption, and secure backups of critical information.
A thorough investigation is ongoing with cybersecurity experts, and more details will be shared soon.
As of now, no major ransomware groups have claimed responsibility for the attack on Tata Technologies, and it is uncertain if any data was stolen.
In October 2022, the Hive ransomware group attacked Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company.
A hacker stole and leaked data on their dark web extortion site, including engineering plans, financial records, and personal client information.
