Evolve Bank & Trust experienced a cybersecurity incident. The bank confirmed that cybercriminals obtained and shared customers’ personal information on the dark web. This data breach affected both retail bank customers and customers of Evolve’s financial technology partners.
Evolve Bank was hacked by a cybercriminal group that stole and shared sensitive data, including Personal Identification Information (PII) like names, Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, account details, and other personal info.
The official statement reads, .“Evolve is currently investigating a cybersecurity incident involving a known cybercriminal organization that appears to have illegally obtained and released on the dark web the data and personal information of some Evolve retail bank customers and financial technology partners’ customers (end users),”.
Evolve Bank & Trust confirms that its debit cards, online and digital banking credentials are safe and not compromised.
“Evolve has engaged the appropriate law enforcement authorities to aid in our investigation and response efforts. Based on what our investigation has found and what we know at this time, we are confident this incident has been contained and there is no ongoing threat,” reads the official statement.
Details of the Evolve Bank Data Breach:
LockBit, a Russian hacker group, caused a ransomware attack and data breach at Evolve Bank. They claimed to have Federal Reserve data and, when their demands weren’t met, released about 33 terabytes of data from Evolve’s systems.
Evolve Bank & Trust is informing people affected by the data breach. They are reaching out to impacted customers and partners’ customers through emails sent from [email protected]. The emails provide instructions on how to enroll in credit monitoring and identity theft detection services.
A spokesperson for the Arkansas-based lender said they have engaged appropriate law enforcement agencies to aid in their investigation and response efforts.
“We will offer all impacted customers (end users) complimentary credit monitoring with identity theft protection services. Those affected will be contacted directly with instructions on how to enroll in these protective measures,” the spokesperson added.
