The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has announced to form ‘Cyber Police Unit’, a separate unit to combat cyber crime.
He said this while speaking to the chief guest at the Police Week inauguration ceremony at Rajarbagh Police Lines on Tuesday, February 27.
The Prime Minister announced the establishment of the ‘Cyber Police Center’ to address cyber crimes, financial crimes, and money laundering. There are plans to establish a complete cyber police unit.
Bangladesh Police has set up DNA lab, modern forensic lab, automated finger print identification system (IFIC), and modern chemical laboratory in some divisional cities. The plan is to establish these labs in every department in the future.
Sheikh Hasina said, We have created the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) in the police to eliminate militancy and terrorism.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Highway Police, Industrial Police, Tourist Police, Naval Police, Anti-Terrorism Unit, Special Security and Protection Battalion, and MRT Police have been created to control and suppress crime.
Sheikh Hasina deployed two battalions of armed police and one battalion of RAB for Rohingya camps’ security.
The Prime Minister announced that the emergency service 999, managed by the police, has received about 50 million calls in the last six years and has provided services to about two hundred crore people. The service will be improved.
The Police Staff College is now an internationally recognized training institution. We have organized modern training sessions at various Police Training Centers, such as the Bangladesh Police Academy. We have also established the Tangail Police Training Center as a Center of Excellence for UN Peacekeeping Training. Additionally, the opportunities for foreign training of police personnel have been expanded.
Sheikh Hasina stated that we have implemented various measures to construct facilities such as canteens, outposts, investigation centers, barracks, and residential buildings. We have also built a 20-story NCICOM building, modern SB and CID buildings, and 101 modern police station buildings at the police headquarters. Additionally, several other development activities are currently in progress.
