Currently total number of voters in Bangladesh is 11 crore 91 lakh 51 thousand 440 people. Among the total voters, 6 crore 4 lakh 45 thousand 724 men and 5 crore 87 lakh 4 thousand 879 women.
Besides, there are 837 voters of third gender. In total, the Election Commission (EC) has the information of about 12 crore citizens out of about 17 crore citizens.

The national identity card or smart NID of these 12 crore citizens is in the hands of the EC. Without this NID, it is impossible for a citizen to take any government or private service. This time, the constitutional institution has formed a ‘Computer Emergency Response Team’ with its own manpower to provide digital security of the NID database to the citizens.
This team constituted by EC technical members. This team will take immediate remedial action in case of cyber attack and also take initiatives to prevent cyber attack. A ‘Computer Emergency Response Team’ consisting of six members and one member secretary was constituted with a total of eight members by summoning the System Analyst of NID Wing. The EC Secretariat has informed the Secretary, Department of Information and Communication Technology to this.
On July 6, US-based information technology news media TechCrunch first published the news that millions of citizens’ personal information was leaked from a government website in Bangladesh. After that, the EC took action to ensure greater security of the national database stored by the Election Commission.
