A seminar on “Ensuring Cyber Security” was held at Sylhet

On January 27, a seminar on “Cyber Security Assurance” was conducted by Assistant Commissioner Nishat Anjum in the meeting room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Sylhet. The day-long seminar was organized by the National Cyber Security Agency in collaboration with the office of the District Commissioner, Sylhet.

Abu Sayed Md. Kamruzzaman NDC, Director General, National Cyber Security Agency was present as the chief guest and keynote speaker in the seminar and Sheikh Russell Hassan, Deputy Commissioner, Sylhet presided.

The seminar titled “Ensuring Cyber Security” was also attended by the members of District Committee on Prevention of Cybercrime of Juveniles, Additional District Commissioners, Police Officers, Public Prosecutors, Senior Officials of various government departments of Sylhet, District Commissioner’s office officials, NCSA officials, District ICT office officials, students-parents and other journalists including executive members of Sylhet Press Club.

At the beginning of the seminar, the Additional District Administrator (Education and ICT) Mr. Hossain Md. Al-Junaid gave a welcome speech. The welcome speaker emphasized on cyber security at personal and institutional level. He said that strong passwords should be used in the case of e-mail, e-documents, national information transmission. Besides, he said, we should be more aware in the use of social media.

Keynote presenter and chief guest Director General of National Cyber Security Agency highlighted the requirements of the newly passed Cyber Security Act, 2023 and various aspects of cyber security. He highlighted the difference between the Digital Security Act 2018 and the Cyber Security Act 2023.

He should work for proper implementation of cyber security laws as well as prevention of misuse and everyone should come forward. Teachers, students and journalists should work closely on cyber security awareness.
Besides, smart citizens are one of the main pillars of the current government’s construction of Smart Bangladesh. Implementation of other pillars will be easier only if the citizens are smart. He highlighted various activities and future plans of the National Cyber Security Agency.

The President of the seminar, Deputy Commissioner, Sylhet highlighted the various initiatives of the government in building a smart Bangladesh and emphasized on the use of frontier technologies including AI, IoT to build a sustainable smart Bangladesh.

He said, to keep pace with the outside world, we need to use ICT more consciously as per the need. He deeply understands the suffering of cyber crime victims and advises everyone to stay away from cyber crime.

The participants in the seminar discussed cyberbullying, public opinion on cyber security, publicity campaigns, personal data protection laws. Moreover, it presents various questions related to safe internet usage and cyber security. The keynote presenters, panelists and NCSA officials provided appropriate answers to the questions.
