Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Malaysia has placed cybersecurity at the heart of the regional agenda. He said that as the nation deepens its global cybersecurity engagement, it is also reinforcing its leadership within the region.
He said these in his speech at the Cyber Defense and Security Exhibition and Conference (CYDES) 2025 on Tuesday at Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Ahmad Zahid urged that the ASEAN Cybersecurity Cooperation Strategy focus on real-time collaboration among member states in incident response, digital forensics, secure data sharing, and policy alignment.
“These mechanisms must uphold the principles of confidentiality, sovereignty, and mutual trust, which are essential in managing sensitive and transboundary cybersecurity threats.”
Themed ‘Advancing Cyber Resilience’, CYDES 2025, which goes until July 3, is organized by the National Security Council and the National Cyber Security Agency, in partnership with Alpine Integrated Solution Sdn Bhd.
CYDES 2025 gathers 70 international delegations from 20 nations alongside five global organizations, underscoring international confidence in Malaysia’s efforts to foster a more secure, cooperative, and responsive cybersecurity environment.
Ahmad Zahid stated that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is essential for creating skilled workers and enhancing social mobility in cybersecurity.
“Malaysia’s TVET ecosystem must now evolve into a globally recognized, high-skilled talent pipeline that delivers real economic impact.
National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) chief executive Dr Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin previously said “This edition of CYDES is very different from previous ones because it is no longer just a local event. It serves as a catalyst for regional and global security agendas in line with Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair and leader of the ASEAN Network Security Action Council (ANSAC),”.
